Gold Club

What is the Gold Club? The Gold Club was set up some 6 years ago as a draw to raise funds for the Club. It replaced the previous draw (the Fifty Club) which had become somewhat moribund. The Gold Club was a significant re-launch.

What are the prizes? We have a draw every month of the rugby season (ie:- 8 draws a year) with six prizes in each draw; a first prize of £250 and five prizes of £100. The Club is committed to increase the number of prizes as the number of contributors grow. The prize philosophy was much discussed at the time of the launch. There are two views - either one can have lots of small prizes so that the chances of an individual winning are high or one can have a few attractive prizes which means the chances of winning are lower but when you do win a prize it's well worth while. The Club adopted the latter course.

How many contributors are there? Our original target was to achieve 50 contributors by the end of the first year. In the event that was comfortably exceeded and at the moment the number of contributors is around 280 which represents a tremendous achievement. The number varies month by month as typically a couple of contributors will drop out for a variety of reasons but new contributors join up.

How much does it cost? The cost is £5 per month payable either by standing order or by cash annually. The receipts from these contributions enables us to make a sizeable contribution to Biggar RFC funds. I know this contribution is warmly welcomed and helps considerably with the Club's many and wide ranging activities.

What does the Club get? Up to half the receipts fund the prizes with the remaining going to support the Club and we now raise some £8,000 to £9,000 each year. The Gold Club is recognised as a key contributor to the Rugby Club's turnover. The efforts of everyone involved in running the Rugby Club deserve our support and we wish them every success for this year. In return I know they thank Gold Club participants for their support and look forward to seeing them at their matches.
