Girls v Lismore

The Biggar U15 Girls game ended in a 73 - 32 win for Lismore. Biggar scorers were Madelyn (2), Anna (conv Farah), Cerys, Sammy and Isla.

The home side started with a bit of a hiccup which knocked the girls off balance and it showed in the first half as they gave away a 40 point lead! Or the girls just like to play under pressure! However, the second half was a different game. Capt Farah Conn came on and blazed a path down the length of the pitch with support from her team and offloaded to Anna Baillie to score. This sparked the girls into action and they ALL made some great plays in both attack and defence. With injuries, (a couple of head knocks), the numbers became mismatched. Biggar played with 12 players against 13 for a while until Lismore dropped to 12 players. The Biggar girls have so much potential which they usually show, but only in the second half on Sunday.

Their heads were up and they enjoyed their game. They did us proud again!

At U18 level...

On a very blustery day at Hartreemill, the latest fixture of the Mirage Conference league saw the Biggar squad playing against Lismore.

Playing into a very strong breeze, Biggar started well and opened the scoring after 5 minutes and added a further try straight from the restart and a third try after 8 minutes to take the score to 17 nil. The strength of the wind was proving very difficult for Emma Orr who was improvising well with varying place and drop kick attempts.

Lismore gained some possession through a series of good scrums and only for the strong tackling of the Biggar girls, were they prevented from scoring. Biggar, however, were enjoying most of the possession and scored two further tries after 15 and 18 minutes respectively.

The Lismore girls kept their heads up and after some good link play and some defensive errors from Biggar they scored their first try in the corner. The Biggar coaches made some changes to allow players to try new positions and this resulted in a further three unanswered tries before half time. Half time score 48 – 5.

The first period of the second half saw some very scrappy play from both sides but it was Biggar that scored a try to take the score to 55 -5 and secure the tie for Biggar. The remainder of the time was used as Development.

Biggar try scorers - Emelia Knights, Emma Orr (2), Kaylee Fraser, Lucy Blackie, Feebi Robinson (3), Abi Clarke. Conversions - Emma Orr (5).

Player of the match for Biggar was Stephanie Smith. Also a big well done to Naomh Gibson in her debut for Biggar.

Many thanks to Richard Robinson for filming the game and to Janet Aitken and Jo Wilkins for their support in the kitchen.

There is now a break of three weeks before the next game away to Annan on the 28th October 2018
