Biggar Colts lose out to Bulls

Bulls Lead the charge at Hartree Mill

A tough derby loss to South Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton Bulls today for the Biggar under 18’s as they were well beaten by a fine display of attacking rugby. The first 10 minutes were a tight affair with only a Hamilton penalty to show for either side. Biggar then seemed to switch off and allow Hamilton to run at them and break the gain line on a consistent basis. This was to prove to be their downfall as the Bulls ran in 4 unanswered tries to lead 31 – 0 at half time.

Biggar started the second half well and really took the game to Hamilton in the early stages. It looked like they might start to claw back their lead but with only 14 on the park due to a late first half indiscretion, the Bulls managed to exploit a gap and score again much to the frustration of a large home support.

This seemed to galvanise the team and led to the best spell of the match for the home team with Seth Jamieson to the fore. The big number 8 scored 2 tries in quick succession. The first one following a great break from Jack Balkwill and Finn Barr. The second one from a good bit of power from the forward pack with Seth showing great strength to drive over the line.

This gave the home favourites some hope and a real battle was beginning to brew. Unfortunately the Bulls upped their game too and scored another 2 tries to quell any fightback hopes.

Seth was to have the final word for Biggar as he completed the scoring and his hat-trick in fine style driving well into the bulls defence and over for another good score.

Full time Biggar 21 – Hamilton 50

Not a great day at the office for Biggar Colts today. Some great flashes of play and real effort but some basics being missed let the Bulls dominate the game. Still some real positives to take from the game. Seth scoring three great tries deserves great credit for his strength and determination. Three new Colts were also capped today. Callum McCallum played well at 10 and will clearly help increase the options in the backs. James Walker came on in the second half and made some really good tackles and disrupted the Bulls ball well and Louis Henderson came on in the front row and did well against a very big Hamilton pack.
