S1’s travel to atke on Strathaven

Strathaven RFC 7 Biggar RFC 37.

It was tries galore at a sunny Strathaven Rugby Club this afternoon, with our Biggar hero’s running in 10 tries to 2 against our South Lanarkshire neighbours.

First blood was drawn by Beau, sprinting clear of the chasing pack, touching down under the posts. Ander stepped up and converted to put Biggar 0-4 ahead.

With our S1‘s tails up it was another break that saw Franklyn next to get his name on the score sheet. 0-7.

Everyone in a Biggar shirt had brought their A game today, with Aaron B, Arron S and Jonny all having a significant influence on the game. Jonny was very unfortunate not to score himself, after a powerful surging run through the Strathaven defence, only to be brought down within a few metres of the try line.

With two tries from Harry and one from Robert before half time, two of which were converted by Ander the half time score stood at 0-19.

For the second half Thomas and Alex replaced Ryan and Neil as guest players for Strathaven. And it was Alex, in a Strathaven shirt, that put his pals under pressure by charging down the left wing only to be thwarted at the 5m line.

Harry scored the first try of the second half, which Liam converted. 0-23. Then after some neat passing it was Franklyn‘s turn to sprint into the corner for his second try of the game. 0-26.

Harry scored again, which Ander converted 0-30.

Our hosts then rallied and managed to score two tries and convert one to raise their morale and give them something to show for all their hard work .

Unfortunately for Strathaven, their two tries just poked the hornets nest and Biggar responded when Robert jinked through for his second score on the day. 7-33.

The last try of the day saw Harry passing to Neil, on our own 22, he then managed to run the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Liam then converted to bring the final score to 7-37.

It was a great all round team performance, that saw every player contributing to a convincing victory. And if the lines on the pitch had been a little more clearly defined then Ander would have had two tries of his own.

Man of the match Jonny .

Todays squad: Morga, Neil, Franklyn, Arron S, Aaron B, Harry, Ewan, Matthew, Alex, Liam, Robert, Ander, Beau, Thomas, Ryan, Jonny, Jake.
