Best facilities in Scottish club Rugby? Biggar RFC is very proud of the progress that has been made in developing facilities that provide our members with some of the best facilities nationwide.

In addition to all that follows two new projects are currently well underway. These pictures were taken in Sept 2022.

1. A new extension to the clubhouse will provide two new changing rooms, referee changing, new hot water boilers and a battery store which will link to the new solar panels to be installed on the clubhouse roof. This will help drive down electricity costs for in particular the showers which should guarantee hot water for everyone even on the busiest of days and floodlights.

2. Machinery shed. As we gather together more ground maintenance equipment we need proper storage to ensure security and safe keeping of that equipment. The new shed will have the capacity to house all our current equipment and more as we continue to improve the pitches.

Pitches

There were initially two pitches there, and third was constructed in 2002 but wasn’t really usable due to drainage problems. In 2015 we embarked upon a 2 year programme to remodel our grounds and since Nov 2016 have 5 full size pitches and numerous of pitch training areas in use, not only by Biggar RFC but also the local football and athletics cubs. Of our 5 pitches 4 of them alit with training lights allowing use of the facility all year round. Our pitches are currently looked after by Hugh Barr who does a fantastic job ensuring all of our pitches are in fantastic condition. % top quality pitches that are maintained and well kept all year round providing our teams with a fantastic venue to play their rugby.

Clubhouse/Changing Rooms

Our clubhouse was opened in 1989, serving the club well with social, catering and changing facilities. However, as the number of members grew, particularly children, our changing and showering facilities became unsuitable and inadequate. In 2012 an extension to the clubhouse coupled with a refurbishment programme delivered major improvements to our facilities. The original changing rooms and communal showers were altered to form an ensuite officials’ room along with two ensuite team changing rooms. A major extension to the building provides a further four new ensuite team changing rooms. Now our six ensuite team changing rooms provide a suitable and safe environment for girls, boys and adults alike.

Gym

Biggar RFC also has a Gym available to all members over the age of 16. Our Gym provides 3 lifting platforms, upper and lower body weights machines, cardio machines and DB/KB weights. For any information on how to access to the clubs gym please see Gordon Young. Our gym is open to all our members and is very well used. We also have many UKCC S and C qualified personnel at Biggar RFC such as Donald Voas, Nic Humphries and Calum McCallum

Academy Office

Based at the rugby club we also have a base for our development team of Nic Humphries, Donald Voas and Calum McCallum. This base is located next to our 1st XV pitch and is used as an admin office for our development team as well as a base for our Hypers players to refuel and recover between sessions.

Physio Room

Our physio room is made available to all teams and age groups and is occupied by our head physio Alison Orr, along side Kirsten Wallace and Jennifer Hewitt.

Biggar RFC is proud of all it’s facilities and we believe we provide all that is needed for our players and members to enjoy a fantastic community club. Biggar RFC is still always seeking ways to improve and better our club and facilities to ensure we provide the best quality Hub for our members and provide an environment that will develop our players.
