Biggar RFC Midi section caters for male High School students in S1 to S4/5 (depending on Birth date) and currently consists of over 80 players in our U13, U14, U15 and U16 teams as well as a host of enthusiastic and rugby daft coaches and numerous vital parent helpers and volunteers.
Our players are an enthusiastic and friendly bunch who are all dedicated to learning, improving and most of all, enjoying the great game of rugby together. All our squads are supportive, friendly and are welcoming to new players, no matter their experience.
The Midi squad coaches are a committed and knowledgeable bunch with a broad range of playing and coaching experience. They have a range of SRU training qualifications from the annual rugby right to refereeing to UKCC Level 2 and abide by the coaching philosophy of growing the person and the player through the game. All players train hard and learn the key skills and basic rugby ideas and ethos during the week and express themselves with freedom in the Sunday fixture.
The Club operates an Academy and Hypers (High Performance) programme for players who wish to devote more time to their rugby development. This is based at the club with Academy Manager and Director of Youth Rugby Nic Humphries in charge. He is supported by coaches Andy Jardine (skills) and Donald Voas (strength and conditioning).
There is also a School of Rugby programme at Biggar, Carluke (and we hope) Lanark to compliment this system with those named above and Community coaches tasked with its delivery.
The Biggar RFC Midi teams currently play in the SRU National Club Conference A in the first half of our season, competing against teams from Ayr/Wellington, Currie, GHA and West of Scotland. This is a new type of competition following the break in rugby due to Covid. As yet we are not sure what the second half of the season will look like.
If you know someone who fancies trying out midi rugby, please get in contact with our midi convener Laura Watson on 07719 929 379 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org . Please also contact Laura if you’d like to volunteer in some capacity – we firmly believe more hands to make light work and will support those who wish to coach, referee or be a first aider through the required courses.
